Industry 08 / Media
Media products are judged on playback and discovery. Both are infrastructure problems dressed as design problems.
Start a project →Where it usually breaks
01
Playback quality
Startup time and rebuffering decide retention more than catalogue size does.
02
Delivery cost
Bandwidth is the dominant line item. Encoding and CDN strategy is a business decision.
03
Rights and windows
Content availability varies by territory and date, and the system has to enforce it.
04
Discovery
A large catalogue without good discovery performs worse than a small one.

How we approach it
We instrument playback before anything else, because startup time and rebuffer rate tell you what to fix. Rights and windowing get modelled as data so business teams can change them without a release.
